The privacy and security of your personal information is extremely important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how and why we use your personal data. This policy applies if you volunteer for GCV or you email, call or write to us.

Who are ‘we’?

In this policy whenever you see the words ‘we’, ‘us’ or ‘GCV’, it refers to the Guernsey Conservation Volunteers. GCV is a registered charity with the Association of Guernsey Charities, registration number 223.

The Guernsey Conservation Volunteers is a charitable organisation with the following aims:

  • To increase public awareness of Guernsey’s diminishing natural environment.
  • To provide a resource for the implementation of projects which create, enhance or protect sites of nature conservation importance.
  • To promote practical conservation through volunteers for the benefit of the community.
  • To educate volunteers in the principles and practice of conservation.
  • To have fun outdoors whilst learning new skills and meeting people.

What personal data do we collect?

Your personal data (any information which identifies you, or which can be identified as relating to you personally, for example: name, email address) will be collected and used by us. We will only collect data that we need.

We collect data in connection with specific activities such as membership and volunteering. You can give us your personal data by contacting us through our website or joining as a member.

This personal data you give us may include name, email address and telephone number.

Special category data

We do not hold special category data about you. Special category data is sensitive personal data for example information about your race, religion, health, sexual orientation or criminal convictions.

Personal data created by your involvement with us

Your activities and involvement with us will result in personal data being created. This includes details of when you attend work parties. This data is used to inform us how many people have attended each work party and the number of hours worked at a particular site.

Information we generate

We analyse the information we hold. We calculate annual statistics including the total number of hours worked at each work party and for each landowner.

Information from third parties

We do not use or buy information from third parties.

How we use your personal data

We will only use your personal data on relevant lawful grounds as permitted by the Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2017.

Personal data provided to us will be used for the purposes of legitimate interests, in particular:

  • we will use your information to maintain records of work undertaken when volunteering

Marketing information

Your privacy is important to us, so we will always keep your details secure. We would like to use your details to keep in touch about things that may matter to you.

We will only send information based on information that is relevant to you, in particular:

  • we will send emails giving details of work parties to be held.
  • we will send emails giving details of other events such as AGMs, EGMs, and social events.
  • we may occasionally send emails giving details of events led by other environmental organisations e.g. La Societe Guernesiaise, the National Trust of Guernsey.

We will only send this information to you if you agree to receive it and we will never share your information with any organisations outside the Guernsey Conservation Volunteers. If you agree to receive marketing information from us you can change your mind at a later date.

However, if you tell us you do not want to receive marketing communications, then you may not hear about events that may be of interest to you.

How we store information

All information is stored electronically and is password protected by authorised users. Some hard copy information, including attendance at work parties and membership lists, is accessible by authorised people.

How long will we hold your data

We will hold your data for as long as you are involved with us and for 6 years after this. Some records, such as attendance at work parties may be held for a longer period.
